Rain is good, but too much rain is a challenge.

NastyWaterA cold rain puts the steelhead down and makes getting a strike tough, especially when the water flow is high, off-color and the stream is full of leaves.  Even lake fishing is marginal when pounding waves and wind churn the shoreline and create a near-shore mess.

Read the gauges before you go, check the wind, and then schedule a breakfast stop just in case.  You can pound the off-color water or take a deep breath and accept the facts.   If you are going to force the issue start south of the lake, find the clearing water and then work your way north.

High off-color water is perfect for drifting egg sacs as this winter video shows.
