Nostalgia – steelhead angling 2010
Yes, even steelhead anglers are nostalgic - a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. Boy, we can relate. We can remember the 100 fish days on the Walnut pier. The days when the fish commission stocked more than double the annual smolt stocking of today. A time when the number of anglers fishing did not exceed the number of steehead waiting in the stream!
Don’t get too depressed. The fishing is still great. Catching a 10-pound steelhead is better than catching a 10” stockie! You may not get a 100-yard stretch of Elk Creek to yourself, but fishing with others has its place too, right?
Look back to 2010 – were you there?
